Mediterranean-Style Oasis: San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2020
COUPAR is always excited to learn the location of the annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase. The 2020 venue will be at 22 · 22nd Avenue, situated in the city's West Clay Park neighborhood. A January 9, 1977 article in "California Living Magazine" described West Clay Park as being like a Bently compared to adjacent Sea Cliff's Rolls Royce persona. Perhaps today, the residential oasis just off of Lake Street with intimate views of the Golden Gate Bridge would be described as a Tesla.
Property developers Lyon & Hoag created West Clay Park as one of San Francisco's Residence Parks placed in its western neighborhoods. A 1910 marketing brochure describes the district as "A sheltered spot cut up into large lots commanding the most magnificent outlook over ocean, beach, and mountain." West Clay Park's single-family homes exhibit a range of architectural styles, from Chateauesque to Art Moderne. COUPAR looks forward to seeing the magic that 2020's designers conjure at 22 · 22nd Avenue's Mediterranean-style estate.
Architect William H. Toepke (1870-1949) built the house along with 10 - 22nd Avenue in 1926 for George H.C. Meyer. The 6,500 square-foot structure features three levels with 29 design spaces, including seven bedrooms, five and a half baths, and a floor plan for indoor and outdoor living. Toepke, a San Francisco native, studied architecture in the office of William Mooser and later formed a partnership with Charles I. Havens. As Havens & Toepke, their most famous edifice is the San Francisco Landmark Flatiron Building.
The 43rd San Francisco Decorator Showcase will be open to the public on April 25th and run to May 25th, 2020. Its proceeds benefit the San Francisco University High School financial aid program. This event allows hundreds of deserving Bay Area students access to a world-class college preparatory education.
