On May 22, the San Francisco Design Center honored the memory of Kirk Phillips with a celebration of his life in the atrium of the Galleria. Considered a fixture in the design community, he worked for the showroom Shears & Window for nearly 30 years. The late Jack Shears hired the Illinois native to manage the glamorous J. Robert Scott gallery with furnishings designed by Sally Sirkin Lewis. An exemplary professional who combined in-depth product knowledge with superb customer service, he rose up through Shears & Window to become Vice President and managed the Textile Division.

Kirk was well loved and respected by family, friends, colleagues, and clients as exemplified by the turnout at his celebration. Along with eulogies by his mother, Carolyn Phillips and father Jack Phillips, the people whose lives he touched at the SFDC remembered him. Greg McIntyre, the owner of Shears & Window, spoke of their 30-year business association. Interior designer Kendall Wilkinson acknowledged that Kirk guided her through the start of her career. Design maven Suzanne Tucker described how as a textile manager he excitedly viewed each new fabric from her line Suzanne Tucker Home. Employee Amy Bayly recalled their first meeting in the elegant J.Robert Scott gallery.

Charismatic Terry McLaughlin acted as emcee, and Laurel Sprigg lent her operatic talents singing Amazing Grace, Kirk's favorite hymn. There was not a dry eye in the house.
