Krista Coupar Piagentini - Founder & CEO

Krista Coupar Piagentini, founder and CEO of San Francisco's COUPAR juxtaposes a passion for interior design with business prowess. The Las Vegas native is a design industry veteran of nearly two decades. Krista and her team coach, counsel, and empower elite designers, architects, and builders. Located in the San Francisco Design Center, COUPAR offers the design community business operations, project management, and marketing communications solutions. By providing creatives with strategic planning, they are freed up to do what they love most: create.  

Krista’s affinity for the design world started when she first worked for Silk Trading Company and later imported high-end textiles. After working for prominent Bay Area interior designers, she understood the industry's nuanced ecosystem. As general manager for Kendall Wilkinson Design, she encountered a network of esteemed architects, builders, subcontractors, artisans, vendors, and shippers. Krista saw the design cycle from the initial client meeting, through to installation.

Knowing what designers needed, she opened COUPAR in 2007. One of Krista’s first accomplishments was systemizing the industry to make the design process more profitable.

While a creative holds the vision of their company, they may not have access to the resources that will help their business grow. Krista also pioneered the concept of à la carte services for designers, forming a Studio team to provide technical support as needed, making firms’ design teams more scalable while allowing for stability and strength through growth periods. Concentrating on behind-the-scenes project management, AutoCAD drafting, and sourcing enables the designer to direct the creative process and client experience.

Krista realized that a designer’s work and their messaging go hand-in-hand and felt the industry lacked this synergistic relationship. COUPAR’S marketing staff tells the designer's story and what makes them unique. After defining the design principal’s brand and the strategy for how to elevate their story, the team threads it through all communications: website development, social media, content marketing, newsletters, media buys, partnerships, and PR initiatives.

The success of Krista’s business models has allowed her to expand from a firm of four into a company of more than 20. She sites journalist Gloria Steinem, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and her grandmother, as women she admires. As an employer, she emulates their innovation and tenacity while encouraging and mentoring her staff. Giving back to the design community, Krista serves on The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art’s Northern California board and the Host Committee for Enterprise for Youth’s Private Collections.
