A Peek Behind the Curtain: QuarryHouse's Stone Shop
Do you ever wonder what happens in a Stone Shop? Coupar, along with other design professionals, had the privilege to visit QuarryHouse's Richmond, California workshop. There expert stonemason and raconteur Ed Westbrook and his team took us through the process from traditional stone carving tools to a computer-controlled milling machine.
Among the attending designers and architects were Katie McCaffrey Principal at Angus McCaffrey, Christopher Roy, Principal at Christopher Roy & Co, John Zeien, Principal at Northworks Architects, and Brier Tomlinson, Architect with Tucker & Marks, Ed and his team took us on an informative tour of where QuarryHouse fabricates the stonework for large-scale public works and luxury estates, along with smaller projects.
Architect John Zeien said of the experience, "I am incredibly impressed with the company Ed and his family have built. He infuses his base knowledge of materials and technique as a fabricator into their commissioned work in a way that I seldom see in the construction industry. The process of apprenticeship as a means of carrying an understanding of traditional methods also sets QuarryHouse apart."
