Alaysha Riley and Phoebe Rios Report
LEGENDS at La Cienega Design Quarter in Los Angeles is one of the most highly anticipated events in the design industry and the 10th anniversary did not disappoint. Design professionals from around the world gathered at LEGENDS X to share insights based on the theme of the event: Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Home. With dozens of window displays from LCDQ partnering shops, showrooms and galleries plus 40 keynote panels, forums, book signings and cocktail parties, there was no shortage of design inspiration.
We kicked off day one with a brunch and inspiring panel at Mecox featuring some of the industry’s top influencers set against a backdrop of a beautiful window display designed by Paloma Contreras Design. Emily Current and Meritt Elliott of This is the Great, Estee Stanley of Hancock Design, and Justina Blakeney discussed how fashion, home and their personal design styles influence and inform our industry.
In the afternoon heat, we found a shady spot at Dessin Fournir's patio to hear Jill Waage, editor in chief of Traditional Home, moderate LEGENDS Keynote “Tried and True.” Seasoned designers Kendall Wilkinson, Kerry Joyce and Thomas Stringer discussed what design elements would carry forward for years to come. Dessin Fournir's unusual antiques and exceptional home furnishing brands set the tone for a fulfilling, and might we add, reminiscent conversation.
From design elements to design predictions, we transitioned over to Jasper for LEGENDS Keynote “Inside the Crystal Ball” moderated by Sophie Donelson, editor in chief of House Beautiful. Michael S. Smith, Paul Wiseman, Thomas Kligerman and Ellen O’Neil gazed into their designer crystal balls and noted the need for escapism and tranquility from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
On the closing day of LEGENDS X, we attended the block printing workshop, hosted by Seema Krish at Nicky Rising. We followed this with the “Outdoor Living” discussion moderated by California Homes Magazine Editor in Chief Susan McFadden, Architect Erik B. Peterson and designer Barclay Butera discussed how the rise of technology has made it easier for people to enjoy their lives outdoors.
As we sashayed around the design quarter, we mused about the theme of this year’s LEGENDS X event: Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Home. Surrounded by brilliant design minds and leading innovations, we thought about how media and marketing intersect the design world. As marketing consultants, we strive to push ourselves – and our clients – out of the comfort zone to experience growth and cut through the noise. Thank you, LEGENDS X, for sharing the visionaries of today and inspiring us for tomorrow.
